Managed Endpoint Care: A Practical Checklist for Your Office

A PC that works today can still have an overdue update, an untested backup, or an account that no one manages. Managed endpoint care gives an office a repeatable way to review those issues. The useful question is not just which tool an MSP installs, but who checks the findings and what happens next.

Start with a device list

List the PCs and laptops people actually use, their users, key applications, and any equipment kept outside the office. Include shared machines and older devices that have become someone’s responsibility by default. Compare this list with the devices included in your support proposal so you can see gaps.

Ask how updates are handled

Ask which operating systems and applications are covered, how updates are prioritized, and when restarts occur. A useful plan also explains how failed updates are noticed and followed up. CISA recommends timely software updates because they address security flaws; an office still needs to coordinate the work with its applications and staff.

Separate installed tools from completed work

For endpoint protection, ask how device coverage is checked, who reviews alerts, and what response is included. For backups, ask what data is protected and whether restoration has been tested. A report showing a tool is present is not the same as evidence that someone has completed the necessary follow-up.

Make the support scope clear

  • Which devices and users are included?
  • What support hours and response expectations apply?
  • How are new devices enrolled and departing staff removed?
  • What onsite work is included or separately arranged?
  • Who handles issues with applications, printers, and internet providers?

Use an onsite visit as a starting point

For an NYC or Long Island office, a repair or network diagnosis can help establish the initial inventory. Ask for the findings, outstanding issues, and proposed next steps. Then decide whether an ongoing plan is useful for the whole office.
